An at home, on-line Lenten activity: The Gospel of Matthew Bible Study Program!

With the temporary suspension of public Masses, Bishop Checchio has suggested that we actively seek alternative devotional activities to strengthen our faith during this very difficult Lent. This Bible study program on the Gospel of Matthew is offered as such an alternative.

This is the Year of St. Matthew and which means that during the Sundays of Ordinary Time (that is, the Sundays outside the Advent/Christmas and Lenten/Easter seasons) our Gospel readings will systematically work through St. Matthew’s Gospel. This Bible study is a good opportunity to become more familiar with the Gospel that has been called “the Church’s Gospel” because of its completeness and accessibility.

The program divides the Gospel of Matthew into six units. For each unit please follow this path of study: 

1. Read the Study Guide
2. Read the portion of the Gospel indicated
3. Look through the Unit Slide Presentation as a review of the material covered. 

There is also a file labeled, “Gospel of Matthew Background” which contains background articles, maps, a glossary and a bibliography, which you may consult at any time.
